This one-of-a-kind jacket is based on the traditional French worker's jacket known as "bleu de travail". The fabric is repurposed from a vintage or antique French hemp bed sheet purchased in the markets of Provence.
The wearer's front right features the vertical detail of the original hand sewn centre seam of the bed sheet. The loom used to weave the fabric was a meter wide, so hand stitching was used to join two lengths of fabric together to create a wide enough length of fabric. This detail also appears on the wearer's right front collar.
The wearer's right pocket features the original owner's initials embroidered in red. Two of the pocket tops and the jacket hem feature the original hand-stitched hem from the top and bottom ends of the bed sheet. The wearer's bottom left front pocket is from a different hemp bed sheet. The colour/tone of this pocket matches the rest of the jacket but the weave is slightly different.
This jacket is a ratatouille designs size extra extra small. It typically would fit someone who is a size extra extra small or extra small. Please review the measurements provided (see last two photos for this jacket) to ensure that this would be the right size for you.
Fabrics that are not new linen are listed as vintage or antique as it is difficult to date fabrics and, when sourcing fabric, my focus is on its tactile nature and its reflection of a history of use and/or workmanship.
When I identify fabric content as linen or hemp or a blend I am doing this based on considerable experience and not scientific tests.
