SOLD —This one-of-a-kind dress is repurposed from a lighter weight, soft, vintage or antique French linen bed sheet purchased in the markets of Provence.
The wearer’s front right has the original hand sewn centre seam of the bed sheet running the length of the dress. The loom used to weave the fabric was a meter wide, so hand-stitching was used to join two lengths of fabric together to create a wide enough length of fabric for a bed. The hand sewn seam reflects slight irregularities associated with hand sewing. Repeated washings over the years have created a slightly darker tone about 6 mm wide/.25 inch wide running beside the hand stitching.
The front dress skirt also has the original hand embroidered monogram “JE” approximately 16.5 cm x 21.5 cm/6 ½ inches x 8 ½ inches). We have applied visible mending to the front dress skirt to cover some marks. Please see photos. There are three addition visible mends applied to the back of the dress. The visible mending is white thread on white fabric.
The dress hem is the original hand stitched top of the bed sheet.
The dress has convenient in-seam side pockets.
The fabric has been pre-washed and will not shrink if washed in cold water and hung to dry. When ironing this dress do it with the monogram face down on a terry cloth towel. This will maintain the depth/fullness of the embroider
Please review the measurements provided to ensure that this is the right size for you. The measurements provided are of the actual finished garment. Remember to add 2.5 cm/1 inch or so to your bust and waist measurements to permit the garment to hang properly. There is no zipper on this dress.
Fabrics that are not new linen are listed as vintage or antique as it is difficult to accurately date fabrics and, when sourcing fabric, my focus is on its tactile nature and its reflection of a history of use and/or workmanship.
